Twitter in 3 Months

It has been 70 days since the beginning of my foray into the world of Twitter. Here’s what I’ve accomplished so far:

  • 350+ Tweets (5 tweets a day, 1 tweet every 4.8 hours)
  • Nearly 300 followers, with a range of interests from lighting to technology, social media and green energy.
  • Gained a following of live-event industry leaders, including Production Resource Group, Tomcat Truss and Cirque du Soleil.
  • Conversed with the author of a non-fiction business management book I was reading.
  • Met and shared notes/ideas with others in my sector.

Not too bad, considering I’m now only 90% addicted to Twitter.  More to come!

    300 followers is pretty good! How many people are you following? have you managed to connect with people you can learn from, people you maybe could not have met otherwise? I think the students who benefit from Twitter most are those who establish professional connections and expand their social capital.

    First and formost, I love The Oatmeal. Great illustrations.

    As far as using Twitter goes, I’m following significantly more people than are following me, about a 10/3 ratio. That was intentional at the beginning, to understand what it meant when you started following an obscene number of people. What I have found is that some of those follows are worthless, but much like the Wisdom of Crowds article would explain I feel like I am getting a better feel for what’s out there in the Twitterverse.

    I’ve connected with professional and amateurs in my industry, and have truly enjoyed talking with them both shop and casually. It’s a great tool for communication and relationship management, but not necessarily for the loud marketing bursts that some PR/marketing people are addicted to. You can certainly tell who does and does not understand that rule of thumb.
