Social Networking {LIVE}

I think everyone that follows a major performance artist on a social networking site will agree that the mundane details of their lives seem to be the most important. I’m not sure why I care what Lady GaGa had for lunch, but for some reason it matters.

Here’s the big question: why does the social networking stop when artists hit the stage? I understand that Taylor Swift can’t be bothered to Tweet while she’s exploring the deep dark world of her dating woes (“You Belong With Me”, for instance), but you can bet that there’s someone backstage who can be Tweeting pictures and interacting with fans in the audience on her behalf.

Sure, ?uestlove of the Legendary Roots Crew is known to have his laptop next to the drum kit or onstage {like this} , but true interactivity isn’t there. Older generations might just ask why an artist needs to do anything but sing and “chat” with the audience between songs while they’re on stage (that’s fan interaction right?), but it’s a one way conversation. To a younger generation that is more likely to send a text message than make a phone call, a little bit of digital interaction and response could go a long way.

In the mean time, I’m still waiting for the band willing to truly play a concert on the fly and let the fans decide their set list (via text, Twitter, what have you) as the concert progresses. Few bands/groups could truly pull this off, but I’d be willing to bet ?uest could make it happen.

I’d be more than happy to work out the technical details if anyone wants to give it a shot though!
